Kudzu Playhouse Scholarships

Application DEADLINE: April 20th, 2023

Kudzu Playhouse offers several college scholarships, to be used for tuition expenses in any degree program. Students may apply for any of the awards but may only receive one. Repeat recipients are not permitted. Recipients must be enrolled and attend an accredited institution in the academic year after their selection (verification needed, as scholarship funds are paid directly to the schools).

Eligibility: Graduating high school seniors, current and rising college freshmen and sophomores (less than 50 semester hours at the time of application).

Applicants must:

  • Be a legal U.S. resident
  • Participated in one Kudzu/Kidzu mainstage production
  • Be younger than 21 years old
  • Maintain a minimum 2.8 GPA
  • Be eligible to attend a two- or four-year college or university with a full-time course of study

Available Scholarships

Wesley W. Williamson Memorial Scholarship

Dedicated in memory of a beloved friend, actor, director, teacher, and passionate supporter of the performing arts and Kudzu Playhouse. The award recognizes a student who understands the importance of providing a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment where individuals can explore their artistic interests, and who has actively demonstrated a commitment to enriching and participating in programs that provide them.

 

Jim Anderson Legacy Scholarship

Dedicated in honor of a longtime supporter of the arts in DeSoto County, and specifically Kudzu Playhouse. The award recognizes a student who understands the importance of strengthening the arts programs in our community and/or schools and has actively demonstrated a commitment to supporting and enriching these programs.

 

Kudzu Playhouse Heritage Scholarship

Recognizes a student whose participation in the arts has affected significant personal growth in areas such as performance skills, technical skills, public speaking, self-confidence/esteem, or an appreciation of literature and the performing arts.

 

Applying for Kudzu Playhouse Scholarships

Application Process:

  1. Complete application(s) via the links above on or before the deadline date. Late or incomplete applications cannot be considered.
  2. Have ready the following (refer to the application for details):
    • Narrative
    • Resume

Criteria for Selection:

  1. The primary criterion is involvement in Kudzu/Kidzu Playhouse productions, fundraising, and promotion.
  2. Narratives are primarily assessed based on content, although grammar, spelling, and format are considered.
