Workshop and Auditions for Kidzu Playhouse’s Thoroughly Modern Millie JR!

AUDITION WORKSHOP: Friday, July 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Stars in Motion, 3370 Goodman Road East, Southaven, MS
Fee: $20 per child
Participants will learn important tips for auditioning as well as meet the director and other members of the production crew.
A short dance number will be taught and used at the audition to evaluate movement, so you should come prepared to dance with appropriate clothing and shoes.
The workshop is NOT required but is highly recommended, for those who are interested in auditioning for this show.
AUDITIONS: Saturday, July 27 at New Discovery Christian Church, 961 Vinson Road, Hernando, MS
Vocal auditions: Ages 8 to 12 – starting at 9:00 a.m. Ages 13 to 18 – starting at 1:00 p.m.
*You are strongly encouraged to audition in the time slot appropriate for your age
Dance auditions: All ages starting at 4:00 p.m.
Callbacks (by invitation only): July 28 at 6:00 p.m.
This show is rated G and is open to ages 8 to 18.
No roles have been precast.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork.

Come prepared to sing at least 16, but not more than 32, bars of one song of your choosing that is similar in style to this show. You may sing a song from this show. You may NOT sing acapella (without accompaniment.) Backing tracks may be on CD, iPod or smartphone, but they must be free of any vocals.
Dance auditions will be held at 4:00 p.m. after all vocal auditions have been completed. You should come prepared to dance with appropriate clothing and shoes.
If you have tap dance training and would like to be considered for the tap feature, please complete the appropriate section on your audition form. We will hold a separate audition for tap after the primary dance audition is completed.
Rehearsals: Begin August 12th and will be at several different locations:
Tuesdays (6:00-9:00 p.m.) and Thursdays (7:30-9:00 p.m.) and Saturdays (times will vary) at New Discovery Christian Church, 961 Vinson Rd, Hernando, MS
Mondays (6:00-9:00 p.m.) and Fridays (6:00-9:30 p.m.) Location TBD
While you should not expect to be required at every rehearsal, you are expected to provide a list of conflicts for all days between the start of rehearsals and the last day of performances. Attendance at all rehearsals during Tech Week (the week before opening night) and at all performances is mandatory.

Summary of Show: It’s 1922 in New York City, and a young Millie Dillmount has just moved to the Big Apple in search of a new life. Her grand plan is to find a job as a secretary for a wealthy man and then marry him. However, her plan goes completely awry. Millie’s wealthy boss is slow in proposing marriage, and the man she actually falls in love with doesn’t have a dime to his name – or so he tells her. What’s a small town girl to do?

Muzzy van Hossmere
A glamorous actress and singer at a night club. She becomes Millie’s friend and mentor
A former actress pretending to be a kindly woman, she oversees the Hotel Priscilla where she secretly sells her tenants to a slavery ring in China.
Ching Ho and Bun Foo
Two Chinese workers in Mrs. Meers’ slave business who are trying to earn enough money for their mother to immigrate over to the United States from Hong Kong.
Trevor Graydon the Third
An executive at the Sincere Trust Insurance Company. He is sharp, ambitious, and secretly romantic.
An uptight, stern office manager. She runs the stenographer pool at Sincere Trust Insurance Company.
